1. MSU still controls its own destiny

Probably the main reason to remain optimistic despite the loss to Purdue has to be the fact that Michigan State controls its own destiny and is one of just a handful of teams in college football that can truly say that.

Michigan State is one of two Big Ten teams that control their own destiny — the other being Ohio State. If Michigan State wins out in the final three games, it’ll be in the Big Ten title game and if it wants that, it’ll be a lock to make the playoff.

So for anyone who was actually stressing over being ranked No. 7 behind Michigan who’s No. 6, it truly doesn’t matter because the Wolverines don’t control their own destiny. Michigan needs the Spartans to lose at least one more game while also beating Ohio State.

If Michigan State figures things out defensively and the offensive line has guys step up for Jarrett Horst (rumored to have left the program for mental health reasons) and Matt Carrick (injured) while Payton Thorne continues to play well and grow as a quarterback, I think this team could find a way to upset Ohio State and go 3-0 in the final three games.

Don’t worry about those current rankings or the loss to Purdue, Michigan State controls its own destiny and after 10 weeks, that’s a great spot to be.
