Michigan State Football: 3 reasons to remain optimistic despite Purdue loss

2. The pass defense can only get better from here

While this seems like kind of a snarky reason, it’s honestly not meant to be. Michigan State now has the worst pass in college football, allowing over 325 yards per game through the air.

Yeah, that’s not going to cut it in the playoff race. Michigan State was already ranked one spot lower than it should have been because of that secondary and Oklahoma has been punished in the past for having a mediocre defense. Michigan State’s secondary can literally only get better from this point on and Mel Tucker even said that changes need to be made.

Scottie Hazelton has to figure something out because giving up over 500 yards to Aidan O’Connell is not only embarrassing but it’s flat-out unacceptable.

The Spartans now face another pass-heavy team led by Taulia Tagovailoa and they are going to likely play better this week after watching film and figuring out what went wrong.

This pass defense isn’t going to get any worse, folks.
