Michigan State Football: 5 bold predictions for November 2021
2. Kenneth Walker III has second-best single season in MSU history
Lorenzo White had the best single-season performance in Michigan State history in terms of rushing yards, putting up just over 2,000 yards while Le’Veon Bell’s 1,793 yards in 2012 was good for No. 2.
Through eight games, Kenneth Walker III is on pace to record one of the top five seasons in school history. He has 1,194 yards and 14 touchdowns on 6.8 yards per carry and there are still four games standing between him and some Michigan State records. He is also a top Heisman Trophy candidate and as long as he doesn’t completely bottom out in the final four games, he’ll be headed to New York for the Heisman Ceremony.
I think we’ll see Walker III average well over 100 yards per game over the final four and I think it’ll be closer to 150 yards as he’ll finish the regular season with about 1,800 yards and 20-plus touchdowns to put up the second-best single season in school history.
And this is before a possible Big Ten title appearance and bowl game. There’s a chance we could see Walker III rushing for 2,000 yards and breaking White’s all-time mark after bowl season.
