1. Tucker’s relationship with Alan Haller, Tom Izzo

Mel Tucker has it made at Michigan State.

For one, he has a great relationship with Tom Izzo that is mutually beneficial. Izzo is basically the main guy in Michigan State’s athletic department and he’s willing to help Tucker in any way possible with fundraising and building the brand. He has a great relationship with Izzo and that can go a long way as it also did for Mark Dantonio. Izzo is a big football guy, believe it or not, and wants Tucker to succeed.

And secondly, Alan Haller is the athletic director that Tucker wanted. When Bill Beekman stepped down, Tucker wanted Haller to get the job as the two already had a really good relationship and now that his boss is the man he would have hand-picked, he can have a lot of say in the athletic department. He can negotiate possible raises easier and get facility upgrades more often.

At LSU, Tucker won’t have nearly the same amount of say in certain things as he does at Michigan State with a great relationship with both Izzo and Haller.

Things would be a much larger work in progress, relationship-wise, at LSU.

Plus, his job security at LSU would be nowhere near what it is in East Lansing. Coaches thrive when they aren’t worried about their job security.
