Payton Thorne: A

Pro Football Focus’ No. 53 quarterback in the country had another great game.

After getting disrespected by PFF last week, Payton Thorne just went out and had one of his best games as a Spartan, putting up a season-best QBR and his passer rating was also the second-best of his young career. He looked poised and almost unstoppable all afternoon as he made just about every throw and he might be the best deep-ball passer in the Big Ten.

The Spartans have to feel fortunate to have a guy like Thorne leading the way because not only is he a great leader, he’s also one of the best quarterbacks in the country.

He finished the Rutgers game with a career-high 339 yards and three touchdowns on 16-of-27 completions. Although he did have an “interception”, it came off a deflection and you could argue that the ground helped the defender pick the ball off. The interception wasn’t all that bad of a throw to his receiver.

On the year now, Thorne has 1,576 yards, 14 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. He’s completing about 62 percent of his passes and is 10th nationally in QBR.
