Michigan State football pushing hard for 4-star WR Armani Winfield
Mel Tucker never stops recruiting. That much has been clear in his 1.5 years on campus. And the Michigan State football coach has also shown he can be present on the field while also recruiting at a high level throughout the season, which is something that has to be tough to do.
Tucker has his team off to a 5-0 start and he’s still focusing on the 2022 recruiting class and finishing it on a high note.
Just last week, he landed four-star athlete Dillon Tatum over the likes of Michigan and Tennessee, and this week, he has his sights set on four-star wide receiver Armani Winfield who also happens to be committed to Texas.
Winfield has been a Longhorn since Jan. 12 and it feels like he is happy with Steve Sarkisian and Texas, but the fact that he took a trip up north to check out Michigan State this past weekend for the Western Kentucky game is a good sign.
With Michigan State’s 2022 class sitting at 20 commitments, there’s a good chance that it’ll be done at around 22-23 pledges and Winfield could take one of those final spots. Tucker has to be telling him that spots are filling up and he’s the top remaining priority.
Winfield is ranked the No. 163 overall recruit and 24th-best receiver, according to the composite.
Who else could be part of Michigan State football’s 2022 class?
Along with Winfield, Michigan State is also recruiting a top prospect committed to another school in the form of four-star offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin. The Kentucky commit is still interested in the Spartans and his recruitment may be far from over.
Another name to keep an eye on is three-star defensive end Elijah Russell.
The class is almost full and there are some top names on the board for Tucker. If he lands all three of these guys, he deserves some type of award.
