Michigan State Football: 3 takeaways from overtime win over Nebraska
1. Michigan State escaped a nightmare second half with a win
The second half for the Spartans was awful. Like terrible. Michigan State finished with no first downs and could barely muster much of anything offensively as the defense was on the field for most of the half and they were gassed. The offense didn’t make the necessary adjustments at halftime like they did against Miami a week ago.
Fortunately, special teams bailed out the Spartans and they came away with a huge 23-20 overtime victory in East Lansing.
Michigan State needs to make some adjustments next time and the offensive line needs to perform much better than it did against Nebraska if it wants to win anything of importance in the Big Ten this season. It can’t have another half like we saw against the Cornhuskers on Saturday.
Honestly, it’s a miracle that the Spartans were able to come away with a win because the Cornhuskers’ defense owned Michigan State’s offense.
Michigan State is now 4-0 and has surpassed all expectations from the preseason, so we can’t dwell on the negatives too much here.
