1. Michigan State is a legit Big Ten East contender

Before the season, if I were to say this, I would be prescribed crazy pills. There’s a good chance my family and friends would be worried about me if I uttered such a phrase, but after three games, it’s looking like an insane possibility.

Honestly, it’s unfathomable that Michigan State is in this position after three games, but the Spartans are playing some of the best football the school has seen in 6-7 years. The players have bought into Mel Tucker and the coaching staff and it’s showing on the field with three wins over at least 17 points and two were against Power Five foes — one ranked and another a reigning division title winner.

Michigan State has probably pieced together the most impressive start to the season of any Big Ten team not named Penn State or Iowa. The Spartans are just one of three teams in the conference to beat a ranked foe. They’re one of two teams to have beaten a ranked team on the road.

Tucker has his team ready for every game and they don’t shy away from the big stage.

We’ve learned that Ohio State is beatable, Penn State is good but also beatable, and Michigan might be one-dimensional (but still good) and beatable. The Big Ten East is wide open.

Michigan State is a legit contender.
