The 2021 Michigan State football season is officially upon us and we all have different expectations for the upcoming season, but I think we can all agree that a bowl game should be the qualifier for a successful second year under Mel Tucker.

What Tucker has done to the roster has been nothing short of impressive, swapping out MAC, Sun Belt, AAC, and FCS talent out for SEC, ACC, and other Big Ten players.

The Spartans may be coming off a 2-5 season, but with two top-10 wins, it’s tough to really gauge just what to expect from this year’s team. Plus the fact that just about every starter is different makes it tough to judge.

The quarterback room got an upgrade as Anthony Russo, a long-time Temple starter, transferred in as Rocky Lombardi left for Northern Illinois. The backfield is as deep as it’s been in years with Harold Joiner and Kenneth Walker III transferring in to join Elijah Collins and Jordon Simmons and the receiving corps and tight end room should be a problem for defenses.

Defensively, Scottie Hazelton should have plenty to work with as opposed to last season when it was basically a few star players and a bunch of fringe guys. He added Quavaris Crouch, Tank Brown, Ronald Williams, Chester Kimbrough, and Drew Jordan to his defense, among others, and it should be much better this season.

So how will Michigan State fare during the 2021 season?
