Michigan State football’s 2022 class jumps to No. 15 in the country
Another week, another massive recruiting win for Michigan State football and Mel Tucker.
After kicking off a red-hot period in early June, the Spartans have become one of the top recruiting teams in the Big Ten for the 2022 cycle. Things got kicked off after the dead period was lifted with a Quavian Carter commitment on June 12 and the heat has only been turned up.
In fact, the Spartans have now landed three straight four-star commitments from the state, all of which are ranked in the top 10 in Michigan.
Antonio Gates Jr., Alex VanSumeren, and Jaden Mangham all committed to Michigan State over the past couple of weeks and that’s been enough to give the Spartans the No. 5 recruiting class in the conference.
Even more impressive, however, is the fact that Michigan State now has the No. 15 recruiting class in the country, according to the 247Sports rankings.
The Spartans are now just one spot behind Rutgers and two spots behind Michigan. Ohio State is No. 4 in the country and, surprisingly, Penn State currently holds the No. 1 spot in the nation for 2022. The Nittany Lions do have 24 commitments which is the most nationally and likely sews up their class, but they’re dominating on the trail under James Franklin this cycle.
Michigan State is making moves under Tucker, however.
Mel Tucker’s 2022 class a sign of things to come
Who else is shocked that when Tucker started getting kids to campus for official and unofficial visits, the recruiting has seen a major uptick? No one? Didn’t think so.
The Spartans landed a couple of players from SEC country in June, flipped a major quarterback target in four-star Katin Houser from Boise State, gained a commitment from former Notre Dame tight end Jack Nickel, and then the recent barrage of in-state four-stars have committed to Michigan State.
Things are only going to get better for Tucker and Michigan State in 2023 and beyond as no one expected the 2022 class to be this good.
