Another recruit who I don’t feel as if Michigan State still has a major shot with but who could be a fantastic pick-up is Armani Winfield.

The Texas commit had been considering the Spartans for months, but after Michigan State landed Antonio Gates Jr. and was in the running for Kevin Thomas, both sides may have cooled. Will Michigan State still reach out to see if he’s interested after landing Gates Jr.? It’s hard to say, but the ship may have sailed here.

Still, until Winfield puts pen to paper this winter and signs with the Longhorns, you can’t count anyone else out. He did commit to the new staff, so this may not be an easy one to flip.

Winfield is one of the best receivers in the 2022 class, ranked the No. 23 wide out and No. 156 overall recruit in the class. The Texas native likes the idea of being part of a potential Longhorn turnaround, but Mel Tucker may not give up that easily.

Maybe this is just a dream scenario, but I wouldn’t be mad at a class with Winfield, Gates Jr., and Jaron Glover.
