For weeks, Michigan State football fans have been lobbying 247Sports for a bump in Katin Houser’s recruiting ranking. And on Wednesday, it finally happened.

The Top247 was updated and Houser made a solid jump from a borderline four-star to a solid four-star on 247Sports, jumping to the No. 246 overall spot. He’s still ranked in the 300s in the composite, but that’s because Rivals is holding his overall ranking back quite a bit.

Houser is one of the top quarterbacks in the class and although he finished as an official Elite 11 quarterback after the finals a few weeks ago, he remained the No. 16 quarterback in the class.

Shouldn’t he be ranked a little higher, you ask?

One of main reasons for this is the fact that he was injured during his sophomore year and split time as a junior with another top quarterback. The film aspect of his game is slightly lacking because, well, there’s not much of it to speak of. He proved that film doesn’t matter because he has the talent — as he proved at the Elite 11 finals — but his senior year will be important.

If he wants to jump even more in the 247Sports rankings, he’s going to need to put everything he’s already proven at camps into his senior film.

A couple of other Michigan State football targets in the Top247

A couple more Michigan State football targets made the Top247 which was updated on Wednesday as Alex VanSumeren came in at No. 193 overall and Antonio Gates Jr. is No. 210.

Michigan State is still focusing on VanSumeren while the Gates Jr. front has been relatively quiet but I can bet that he would still be a take, especially since Kevin Thomas is looking like a West Virginia lean and Armani Winfield is still committed to Texas.

Mel Tucker isn’t done yet, folks.
