Michigan State football has had good luck with kickers over the years and there’s always a concern when the coaching staff changes that certain trends may not continue.

Well, Mel Tucker has carried over that success with kickers to his tenure, landing one of the best in the 2022 class in Jack Stone from Dallas, Texas, who is listed as a three-star composite recruit on 247Sports.

But kickers are valued much differently when it comes to overall recruits because every other position is valued higher.

That’s why there are certain recruiting websites dedicated to ranking kickers and giving them star grades based on their value among one another.

In fact, Chris Sailer who runs one of the best kicking and punting camps in the country, recently ranked the top kickers in the 2022 class and Stone came in at No. 4 overall. Even more impressive, he was listed as a six-star kicker of which there are only six in the entire cycle.

As you can see from Sailer’s star rating tracker, six-star is the highest you can get and it basically means you can start in the Power Five as a true freshman. You’re that good of a kicker.

Stone is that good, apparently.

Michigan State football’s 2022 class coming together nicely

Stone is technically the lowest-rated recruit in Michigan State’s 2022 class, but he’s still one of the best in the country at his position. He is behind only three other kickers which shows just how good of a find this was by Tucker and the staff.

To make things even better, Ade Willie, another one of the lower-rated recruits, was rated as a four-star by ESPN along with Jack Nickel. Jaron Glover is a high three-star on ESPN which should bump his composite up along with Nickel and Willie’s and Katin Houser is sure to see a bump in the near future after a strong Elite 11 finals performance.

Michigan State also has four mammoth offensive linemen (soon to be five?) and a couple of impressive safeties to go along with rising athletes in the class.

I wouldn’t be shocked if the 2022 class for Tucker ends up in the top 25, especially with guys like Ryan Baer, Alex VanSumeren, Armani Winfield, Dillon Tatum, and Chase Carter all sitting nicely with Michigan State.
