Michigan State football recruiting recap for the week of June 28-July 4
What a week it was for Michigan State football recruiting. Not only did the Spartans get to revel in the fact that they swiped one of the best quarterback recruits in the country from Boise State, but they watched him perform well at the Elite 11 finals in California.
Katin Houser has been making headlines all week for Michigan State and at the Elite 11 finals and while he has become the most talked-about recruit in the 2022 class for Mel Tucker and Co., much more happened between June 28 and July 4.
Although the dead period officially struck once again, the Spartans were trending with some top targets and the momentum that Tucker has right now is palpable.
Let’s take a look at what Michigan State football recruiting news you may have missed from the past week.
Michigan State football recruiting recap (June 28-July 4)
- We all know about Katin Houser’s commitment to the Spartans on June 27 to end the previous week and he then got to perform in the Elite 11 finals with 19 other quarterbacks. The even only proved that the Spartans got themselves a good one as Houser competed at a high level and was named one of the official Elite 11 quarterbacks and Rivals even ranked him as the No. 7 overall performer at the event. This dude deserves a rankings bump.
- The Spartans picked up a few crystal balls for three-star Minnesota-based defensive end Chase Carter who also narrowed his finalists down to two: Iowa and MSU. A decision seems to be nearing for one of Michigan State’s top edge targets.
- Not long after receiving a flurry of crystal balls for Carter, some prominent MSU insiders predicted that four-star defensive lineman Alex VanSumeren would choose the Spartans. He is a top target of Michigan State’s and might be No. 1 on the board currently.
- This may be more of a basketball development, but four-star point guard and dual-sport athlete (also a three-star cornerback) Tre Holloman named Michigan State in his top six.
- Ryan Baer, one of the top offensive tackle targets for MSU in the 2022 class, began to trend toward the Spartans after a couple of big crystal balls came in on 247Sports. He would be the fifth offensive line commit in the Spartans’ 2022 class and the highest-rated one yet.
- Four-star athlete target Dillon Tatum, who is likely down to MSU and Michigan, admitted that he plans on making a decision this summer. The longer this plays out, the better Michigan State’s chances are.
There could be some big recruiting developments for Michigan State in the coming week so keep it posted here for the next installment of our recruiting recap.
