It’s been a successful summer thus far for Mel Tucker and Michigan State football recruiting.

The end of the dead period has been a welcome sight for the coaching staff as they’ve been able to show off the city that they’ve fallen in love with over the past year. Tucker did a fantastic job during the official visits in June, landing seven commitments in the month and vaulting the Spartans into the top 30 in the national rankings.

And they’re not done yet.

Michigan State is trending with some of its top targets in the 2022 class and there are a handful who could soon be Spartans.

Which five 2022 targets could be the next to commit to Michigan State in July?

Chase Carter recently announced a top two of Iowa and Michigan State after his trip to Iowa City last weekend and along with those two, he also took an official to Iowa State.

The three-star defensive end from Minnesota has been high on the coaching staff’s list for a while and now that he’s closing in on a decision and all signs are pointing to Michigan State here, Mel Tucker has to feel good about his chances.

Carter stands 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds so he already fits the height requirement of Tucker, but he could afford to add some muscle to that frame. If he bulks up, he’ll be a towering presence off the edge and he has plenty of athleticism to make his way to the quarterback regularly.

Michigan State is the favorite here to land the No. 886 prospect in the 2022 class and I would be shocked if he wasn’t committed by the end of July.
