The 2022 class is filling up for Michigan State football and certain position groups are closer to being sewn up than others.

Michigan State landed its quarterback in the class so that position is no longer a need, the offensive line has been hammered home and there may be a spot for one (two if Kiyaunta Goodwin flips) more players, the defensive line could use some more help along with the linebackers, the defensive backfield has been addressed heavily, and running back could be Kaytron Allen or bust.

But what about receiver?

The position group is loaded heading into the 2021 season and a good number of contributors are coming back next year and the Spartans just landed three-star Florida wide out Jaron Glover.

Mel Tucker and the rest of the staff could be making room for one — possibly two — more wide receiver commits after Glover’s pledge.

Who seems the most realistic at this point?

Predicting Michigan State football’s 2022 WR commits

Glover is currently the only receiver pledge in Michigan State’s 2022 class but there are some big names left on the board.

Here are just a few guys who Tucker is pushing for with 1-2 spots left at receiver:

  • Armani Winfield (4-star Texas commit)
  • Antonio Gates Jr. (4-star)
  • Kevin Thomas (3-star)
  • Shawn Miller (3-star)

You can’t really go wrong with any of those guys and even the three-stars are fringe four-stars.

The least likely commit on that list would have to be Winfield who took a visit to East Lansing on June 4 and still is considering the Spartans and LSU Tigers despite being committed to Texas. It seems like he’s open to at least listening what Michigan State has to offer.

The other three are the most likely.

If I had to guess how Michigan State’s 2022 class ends at the position, I’d say that Tucker is able to finally close on Gates Jr. as well as Thomas. Both of those guys would be complementary as Gates Jr. has plenty of size and Thomas is a speedy receiver who also has a good frame.

Miller just took a visit to East Lansing and loved it, naming the Spartans in his top six with a “commitment coming soon” but I just don’t see Michigan State winning that one.

A Thomas and Gates Jr. finish to the 2022 receiver class would be a huge win for Tucker and that’s the scenario I see as most likely.
