Michigan State football finally did it; the Spartans landed a Plan A quarterback target.

OK, so maybe AJ Duffy was the top quarterback target in the 2022 class but after he committed to Florida State, the Spartans moved two new gunslingers into that 1A and 1B position: Katin Houser and Nicco Marchiol.

On Sunday afternoon, Houser (or current Plan 1A) committed to Michigan State. What makes this even more impressive is the fact that he had committed to Boise State just a few months earlier and cancelled his other trips this summer after the dead period was lifted but moved up his trip to East Lansing.

Mel Tucker rolled out the red carpet for him and he has flipped about a week later, giving the Spartans their QB1 in the 2022 class.

Houser is the first four-star commit in Michigan State’s 2022 class and he gives the Spartans their seventh pledge in the past couple of weeks. He’s ranked about 200 spots higher in the composite rankings than the next-highest rated MSU commit Malik Spencer.

While he’s listed as a composite three-star, 247Sports is higher on him, listing him as a four-star and the No. 16 quarterback in the 2022 class. He could also be on the rise soon in the recruiting rankings after his Elite 11 regional performance and his invite to the finals. Houser looks like the real deal and it’s no wonder why the staff looked at him as QB1.

Michigan State football could see a domino effect

After landing their quarterback, Michigan State could see more dominoes fall. The Spartans’ 2022 class is up to 12 commits and there are a few more names who could soon join the fold.

Michigan State is hoping to land former Notre Dame tight end commit Jack Nickel and three-star receiver Kevin Thomas along with three-star tackle Ryan Baer and all three could soon become a reality now that the Spartans have their quarterback. Houser could be the first big domino to fall as the 2022 class begins to take shape.

Not a bad second class for Tucker and Co.
