As the offseason rolls along, Michigan State football’s quarterback board for the 2022 class has begun to really take shape.

AJ Duffy looked like the top target all along but he committed to Florida State when it was down to the Seminoles, Arizona State, and Michigan State.

Florida State already had a quarterback committed to its 2022 recruiting class, however. Nicco Marchiol, a four-star from Arizona, had been committed to the Seminoles but Mike Norvell decided to take a risk and land a second four-star quarterback, but everyone assumed that decision was going to lead to consequences.

Well, it did.

On Wednesday, Marchiol decided to decommit from Florida State after he said he felt “disrespected” by the coaching staff, presumably after the Duffy recruitment.

Shortly after Duffy committed to Florida State, Michigan State offered Marchiol and now things may be coming full circle as the four-star quarterback is headed to East Lansing this weekend for his official visit and it seems relatively clear that the coaching staff is making him a priority.

Could he be on commitment watch?

Mel Tucker’s first real in-person recruiting test will take place this weekend as Marchiol will be in town and he’ll have a shot at pushing for a commitment.

Being the first 2022 quarterback to visit Tucker and the Spartans after the dead period is a good sign that he’s atop the staff’s board, but there are other names to keep an eye on if Marchiol doesn’t end up committing to the green and white.

While I believe Marchiol is the staff’s top target at the position, Boise State commit Katin Houser (who’s planning a June 25 official) and Cal commit Justyn Martin (who is unofficially visiting this weekend) are still high on their list.

Marchiol is ‘the guy’ right now and he should be trending toward the Spartans after his Florida State decommitment.
