Michigan State basketball making strong push for 2023 guard Braelon Green
By Carlos Araoz
As Michigan State basketball puts the full court press this summer on several 2022 prep basketball targets, Tom Izzo and his staff simultaneously have their sights set on a select number of 2023 recruits, proof that they are taking full advantage of the dead period being lifted once May concluded.
They are after 2021 incoming freshman Max Christie’s little brother Cameron Christie (out of Rolling Meadows, Ill.) but they also are pursuing Ypsilanti’s very own Braelon Green. Neither promising player from the class of 2023 has more than a half dozen offers, therefore MSU is making a run at them early on which is always is an impressionable piece during any recruitment.
Videos are regularly surfacing online of Christie and Green training tirelessly in areas throughout the Chicago and Detroit areas, respectively. These two are serious when it comes to sharpening their games.
The younger Christie is more of a traditional shooting guard while Green has the ability to run an offense or play off the ball. An offer from the Spartans went out to Green at the end of April and according to Recruits Zone, he’s set to take an unofficial visit to East Lansing on June 9.
Green is an ultra athletic combo guard who attends Lincoln (Mich.) High School. He displays a nice handle and a jump shot that is quickly improving over time. His game tape shows that he is a willing defender, too, using his quickness and solid frame to give opponents fits.
What stands out more than anything is how immensely explosive he is when attacking the basket. He elevates effortlessly and finishes above the rim with ease. Take a look at this in-state talent below:
Green averaged 18.6 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 2.2 steals per game in his first full season in a featured role for Lincoln this past winter. His accession is just beginning.
After Michigan State lost four guards this spring by way of graduation and transfers departing (Josh Langford, Rocket Watts, Jack Hoiberg, and Foster Loyer), they are in need of some depth along the perimeter to spell the trio of new arrivals Jaden Akins, Pierre Brooks, and Max Christie.
Green surely is an enticing prospect and there seems to be a ton of mutual interest between this high school junior-to-be and the Spartans. It will be interesting to see how this recruitment unfolds but it’s safe to say, so far, so good.
