If you’re not recruiting every day, you’re not going to fit in with Mel Tucker’s Michigan State football staff and that becomes more evident every single day.

It seems like the Spartans are extending new offers daily as well as making top schools lists for some of the nation’s top prospects.

On Friday, the latter happened.

Michigan State made the cut for one of the best receivers in the 2022 class on Friday afternoon as four-star Omar Cooper Jr. from Indianapolis, Ind., posted his top 10 schools on Twitter.

Cooper’s top-10 list is Big Ten-heavy with Michigan State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, Indiana, and Illinois making the cut. That’s 60 percent of his top schools which just means that there’s a good chance he’ll wind up somewhere in the Big Ten and Indiana might just be the early favorite because it’s the home-state program.

West Virginia, Cincinnati, Missouri, and Virginia Tech also made his list so it’s an interesting mix of teams but Michigan State might present a really good opportunity to play early.

Michigan State football could have a spot for Cooper Jr. early on

The receiving corps might open up a bit after the 2021 season because Jayden Reed and Jalen Nailor could both make that jump to the NFL and CJ Hayes is a senior. That’s three potential openings on the two-deep with Keon Coleman the only incoming freshman I see guaranteed to make an appearance in 2021.

Cooper Jr. is a 6-1, 170-pound receiver who could probably play any of the wide out positions so he could fill in for Reed or Nailor even in strictly depth situations.

The composite ranks him as the No. 215 overall recruit in the 2022 class and the No. 29 receiver. He’s also Indiana’s fifth-best recruit.
