With a loaded backcourt heading into the 2021-22 season and likely mostly returning the following year, Michigan State basketball will be looking to add to its frontcourt in the 2022 recruiting class.

That’s where Tarris Reed comes into play.

Reed has risen to the top of the Spartans’ big board as he is starting to look like the top priority big man in the 2022 class and the interest is mutual.

In fact, according to multiple reports, the talented power forward from Saint Louis, Mo., is taking his official visit to East Lansing next weekend when the dead period is finally over.

This news comes just a day after he revealed which programs were recruiting him the hardest, headlined by Michigan State, Ohio State, Kansas, and Michigan.

Michigan State will get his first official visit on the same weekend that dual-sport star and four-star point guard Tre Holloman will be on campus. If the two can develop some sort of rapport, the Spartans could find their future connection of guard and big. They could end up being the future of Michigan State basketball.

Tarris Reed headlines Michigan State basketball’s targets

Reed is atop the list of post targets for Michigan State in the 2022 class but Jalen Washington, Kijani Wright, and Isaac Traudt are also up there.

He’s ranked the No. 94 prospect in the entire class as well as the 17th-best power forward and Missouri’s top recruit, according to the composite. But 247Sports is a little higher on him, listing him as the No. 79 prospect and 14th-best power forward.

Getting the first official visit from Reed is big and it could give Michigan State an important leg up on Purdue, Indiana, Michigan, Kansas, and Ohio State moving into the final stages of his recruitment.

Reed could kickstart this 2022 class for Tom Izzo and maybe someone like Holloman can follow suit.
