Michigan State Football: 3 post-spring 2021 breakout candidates on offense
The spring game was a good sign for the Ian Stewart fan club. He was making highlight catches all afternoon and had a good rapport with Noah Kim which came as a bit of a surprise.
Both guys impressed and raised their stocks this spring, but Stewart is the one who is more likely to earn some playing time this season.
Stewart was a tight end last season under the new staff after committing to Michigan State as a receiver in the 2020 class and he didn’t see the field outside of special teams. He was still adjusting to the new position but now that he’s made the switch back to receiver where he feels comfortable, the confidence is starting to shine through.
And we saw that in action during the spring game.
Stewart has great size at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds and if he can use it to his advantage along with his physicality and ability to win 50/50 balls, he’s going to be a serious red zone threat for the Spartans. I expect a surprise breakout season from Stewart in 2021.
