One of the best defensive back prospects in the 2020 recruiting class has hit the transfer portal after just one season with Auburn. The Tigers have lost some really talented players from its roster this offseason and that’s what happens when a new head coach takes over. Chris Thompson Jr., and a handful of others, felt they didn’t fit the new coaching staff.

Thompson Jr. was ranked the No. 199 overall prospect in the 2020 class and he was also the 17th-best safety, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Texas looked to be the overwhelming favorite to land the Duncanville, Texas, native but he chose Auburn and shocked everyone. Texas could get back into the running for him here since he’s back on the market, but a change in the Longhorns’ coaching staff this offseason may hurt their chances.

Thompson Jr. is versatile enough to play either safety or cornerback and that’s exactly what this Michigan State secondary needs. Maybe he could even fit into that nickel spot.
