Michigan State football’s spring practices are in the books officially and Mel Tucker has now successfully engineered his first offseason as head coach.

Sure, there’s an entire summer standing between Michigan State and the start of the regular season so the offseason isn’t 100 percent over, but the next step is fall camp and that’s where the team starts looking complete. Spring is usually for weeding out players who probably won’t see the field much in the fall and Michigan State has seen a mass exodus since the open practice.

The roster is becoming more finalized and players who didn’t stand out this spring are heading elsewhere.

But for these three guys, big springs have opened new doors. These guys stood out in the open practice and really improved their stocks.

If you watched the open practice on Saturday, you would have heard former Michigan State linebacker and current Director of Player Engagement Darien Harris speaking highly about Jalen Hunt on Big Ten Network.

Harris was working for BTN during the Spartans’ scrimmage so he was incredibly insightful for all the fans watching on TV, but for someone who has spent a lot of time around the current players on the roster, hearing him praise Hunt was especially exciting.

He said that Hunt has the ability and talent to become one of the best ever to play defensive line at Michigan State. Yes, ever.

And then there was this praise from The Athletic’s Colton Pouncy:

The 6-foot-4, 330-pound tackle has appeared in just two career games at Michigan State but with praise like this from guys who spend a lot of time around the team probably means he’s due for a breakout in 2021.

Hunt’s stock is on the rise.
