Like Cam’Ron Fletcher, Michigan State was heavily involved with Bryce Thompson before he committed to a blue blood.

Thompson and Michigan State were definitely mutually interested during his recruitment and before he committed to Kansas as the Spartans made his top-seven schools list. He was ultimately drawn to Kansas like a handful of past Michigan State targets for various reasons but now that he’s in the portal — as of last week — he can give the Spartans another shot.

This is someone who Tom Izzo really wanted before he committed to Kansas and there’s a lot to like about Thompson. He’s a 6-5 combo guard who can handle the ball and play on the wing so he’s kind of like a Josh Langford-type. This would be the perfect replacement.

Not only would he replace Langford nicely with his size and elite potential, but he also has four years of eligibility remaining so he could be a long-term addition for MSU.

Thompson was the No. 21 overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting class and averaged just 4.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in an injury-marred freshman season.
