This is a transfer that a lot of major programs will be after and it might not be all that realistic, but this is who I want Tom Izzo to be targeting in the portal to add some center depth outside of Marcus Bingham Jr. and Mady Sissoko.

Mitchell is a former four-star forward/center from Pittsburgh who surprised some people when he decided he wanted to commit to UMass. Not often you see a top-100 recruit commit to an Atlantic 10 program but Mitchell felt like he would excel there as a go-to threat and he did just that.

In fact, in two seasons with the Minutemen, Mitchell averaged no less than 17.7 points per game. He averaged 17.7 as a freshman and 18.8 as a sophomore. Not only is he an offensive threat in the post, but he can stretch the floor and he averaged 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals as a sophomore in 2020-21.

Did I mention that just about every major program is going to want him?

I don’t know if he’s even on Izzo’s radar or vice versa, but he needs to be, especially since Thomas Kithier just transferred and post depth is a must heading into next season.

Mitchell may very well be the best center/power forward on the market.
