Michigan State Football: 3 most impactful transfers for 2021 season
Is there a more impactful position on the field than quarterback? Absolutely not, so that’s why Anthony Russo comes in at No. 1 despite not having won the job yet.
Payton Thorne is going to push Russo to the finish line and he might even win the job, but even if the sophomore quarterback wins the starting job, the fact that he’s facing a legit battle will only help him in the long run. The same goes for Russo if he beats out Thorne for the starting job. The battle for the starting job is only going to make him better.
Russo had an impressive career, for the most part, at Temple, passing for over 6,000 yards and 44 touchdowns but his biggest weakness had to be turnovers.
In fact, Russo had 32 interceptions to his 44 touchdowns which isn’t exactly the best ratio.
Experience is something you want at quarterback and that’s exactly why Mel Tucker added Russo via the portal. He wanted a quarterback with experience and the ability to light up the scoreboard — Russo checks both boxes.
If he lives up to his potential in 2021, Michigan State should be in really good shape offensively.
