Free safety Tre Person has moved on from Michigan State, so Xavier Henderson could slide over to make room for Darius Snow or Michael Dowell who fit more of the strong safety role. Angelo Grose took on the role of nickel last year and showed off some impressive skills. With all the attrition at cornerback Grose could move over and one of Snow or Dowell could take on that role.

Either way, odds are one of these two players will be a starter in the secondary. Snow was the highest-rated commit in the 2020 class for Michigan State and has the Spartan Dawg gene in his blood. His dad was MSU point guard Eric Snow and his uncle was All-American linebacker Percy Snow. Darius didn’t do much in 2020, but the pandemic has set freshmen back.

Dowell has the gene in him too. Both his brothers Andrew and David were critical parts of the 2018 defense that ended up being number one ranked in the country. Michael had 27 tackles,
0.5 sacks and one pass deflection in seven games last fall.

Snow or Dowell needs to step up this year, so seeing who’s ahead in the position battle this spring will be a fun storyline to watch.
