2. Playing for a title contender

The draw of playing for a contender has to be a reason Tyson Walker is in the transfer portal to begin with. Northeastern was just 26-24 over the past two seasons with Walker running the point and playing in the CAA didn’t exactly put a lot of eyes on him.

While Michigan State was just 15-13 this past season with an exit in the First Four after blowing a 14-point lead against UCLA, the Spartans are in line to make a huge jump next season.

If Michigan State can land Walker, it immediately improves at the point guard position with Jaden Akins and AJ Hoggard backing him up. It would also be good to have a facilitator at the point if Rocket Watts does decide to stay so he can play his natural two-guard position and just worry about hunting his shots. Gabe Brown, Joey Hauser, Max Christie and Pierre Brooks would all benefit from having a true point as well.

And that’s not even mentioning Marcus Bingham, Mady Sissoko and Malik Hall in the post. All three of those guys could use a point guard and leader.

This roster will be one of the most talented in the Big Ten and country next year and a turnaround would be expected. He could help the Spartans shake off this forgettable season and get back to the NCAA Tournament as a top seed.
