Rumors began circulating on Wednesday afternoon that Emoni Bates would skip a year with Michigan State basketball for the G-League.

Michigan State fans went to bed in a great mood after watching the Spartans beat Indiana and all but secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament field (one more win should really do it) and then woke up this morning to some unpleasant rumors.

According to a litter of NBA scouting accounts and media outlets, Emoni Bates would likely be heading to the G-League out of high school and skipping Michigan State.

The Athletic‘s Brendan Quinn wrote a story about how Bates’ future lies in the NBA and his potential screams superstar. He also wrote that no one he interviewed for the story seems to believe that Emoni will play basketball at MSU. That is what it is: an opinion.

Emoni caught wind of the article and the rumors and posted this on his Instagram:

Bates is arguably the top recruit in the country and he committed to Michigan State over the summer. Some believe he did so as just a ‘thank you’ to Tom Izzo for recruiting him the hardest and always showing love while others believe that he will actually suit up in the green and white when it’s all said and done. Right now, it’s hard to say.

But sometimes rumors are just that: rumors.

Does Quinn know what Emoni is going to do? No. Does anyone know what Emoni is going to do right now? No. All we know is that he’s committed to Michigan State at the moment and the plans haven’t changed yet.

One thing is for certain, though: Emoni hasn’t made a decision yet and doesn’t want people to believe rumors that haven’t used him as a source.
