Joshua Langford led the Spartans to their first emotional victory

Perhaps the best part about the Spartans’ win tonight is the way they won the game. For the first time all year, these guys went out there and played their hearts out.

Even after a rough offensive start, you could tell they wanted it, playing with a level of energy that we haven’t seen since the departure of Cassius Winston and Xavier Tillman.

Langford was at the forefront of this charge. He pulled in 16 rebounds, but the number 16 doesn’t even begin to tell you the full story as to how well he played. Putting a number value on it almost diminishes the work he put in all night. His rebounds came on both ends of the floor and they were absolutely vital for a team that could not compete with the size of Illinois.

He had offensive rebounds, put-back buckets, strong rebounds on the defensive end, and tips at crucial times. In a game where Michigan State had no way of overpowering the Fighting Illini’s giant center, Kofi Cockburn, Langford stepped up when this team needed him most.
