Tom Izzo spoke on the final weeks of the season being an audition for some Michigan State basketball players. Roster changes could be coming.

Frustration has boiled over within the fanbase regarding the 2020-21 Michigan State basketball season and a lot has to do with mismanagement of lineups and talented guys having horrid seasons.

Although Tom Izzo has been responsible for some of the struggles with some questionable lineups, no one could have seen the struggles from Rocket Watts or Joey Hauser coming.

This team is too talented to be this bad, but sometimes that’s just how it goes.

Is it an effort thing? Maybe. Is it confidence? Most likely. But it could also be a combination of things and guys underperforming and no one stepping up in the leadership department have been huge issues. That’s led to this 10-9 start and 4-9 Big Ten record.

Izzo knows this and he was actually pretty candid about the future outlook of the roster. He basically called these final weeks of the season an “audition” and that “changes” will be made to make improvements on the roster.

By changes, he means transfers, according to Kyle Austin, and that’s actually something fans are OK with hearing given the fact that too many guys seem content with underperforming.

This roster is filled with talent but there’s no doubt that a couple of guys aren’t exactly built for Big Ten basketball. It’s good that Izzo realizes this.

Also, he has to make room for a potential 3-4 man incoming class, especially if Aaron Henry doesn’t decide to head to the NBA draft.

Izzo acknowledges changes need to be made and that’s music to Michigan State fans’ ears.
