This one shouldn’t come as much of a surprise because Michigan State plays exponentially better on the defensive end when Marcus Bingham Jr. is on the floor. He just makes that much of a difference.

Bingham Jr., however, plays just 10.1 minutes per game which is just 10th on the team behind guys like Thomas Kithier, Malik Hall, Gabe Brown and less than half of Joey Hauser’s minutes. That’s unacceptable for a team with a major void in the post.

Whenever Bingham has played lately, it seems like he’s been doing nothing but positive things on the defensive end of the floor. He held his own against Luka Garza, had two blocks and three steals against Nebraska and had six points, nine rebounds, a block and a steal in a big win against Penn State.

How the heck does a guy who is averaging about four points, six rebounds and over a block and steal over the past three games get only 10.1 minutes? It’s not acceptable for Tom Izzo to keep playing Kithier over him the way he has been.

Fortunately, Bingham’s minutes are on the rise, but he should be getting more than 13-16 minutes per game and somewhere in the ballpark of 20-25.
