Tulane made a push late to land Keon Coleman, but it was ultimately Mel Tucker and Michigan State who had the last laugh.

Earlier in the fall, Coleman committed to Kansas with the intention of playing basketball as well as football but then he de-committed and Michigan State got back in the running. What a turn of events this was because when he committed to Kansas, he cut Michigan State from his final three as a program like Oklahoma looked like his backup plan.

Tucker never stopped recruiting Coleman and it paid off as he signed with the Spartans on National Signing Day, giving them an elite receiver in the 2021 class.

Michigan State might be pretty deep at receiver moving forward with guys like Jayden Reed, Ricky White, Jalen Nailor, Tre Mosley and CJ Hayes returning. But with his 6-foot-4, 200-pound athletic frame, he can be a field-stretcher and also a red-zone threat. He could be what Felton Davis was and what fans hoped Tre’Von Morgan (in the red zone) was before he transferred.

The Spartans need big-bodied receivers and Coleman fits that mold.
