Which 2021 Michigan State football signees will have an immediate impact and potentially crack the two-deep depth chart in the fall?

Mel Tucker’s first National Signing Day with Michigan State is officially in the books and the second-year head coach signed the No. 43 class in the country, according to the composite, which is one spot ahead of Mark Dantonio’s final class.

Fans might be waiting for Tucker’s “elite recruiting” to come to fruition, but this was an impressive start considering the circumstances.

In fact, Tucker wasn’t allowed to recruit in person for most of his first offseason with the team and he still found a way to land a decent class, led by a top-200 linebacker in Ma’a Gaoteote and four-star receiver in Keon Coleman on signing day. Both were huge recruiting wins and he almost had another massive victory with Rayshaun Benny, but he flipped to Michigan on signing day.

With the first signing class in the books and a handful of transfers added to the roster, Tucker can finally start to build his program. He even admitted that a lot of coaches just try to add guys while he’s trying to actually build a roster. That’s refreshing to hear.

Stockpiling talent is fine, but getting talent at positions of need is better in the long run.
