Michigan State Basketball: 3 bold predictions for Spartans at No. 8 Iowa
2. MSU shoots 40 percent from deep
Michigan State hasn’t made over 23 percent of its shots from 3-point range since beating Rutgers by 23 points in early January. Just how bad has it been? The Spartans are hovering around the 20 percent conversion range over the past three games which has contributed to this losing streak and overall ugly offense.
So what the heck makes me think that this team which is in the gutter offensively right now is going to shoot over 40 percent from deep?
We haven’t seen guys like Joshua Langford, Joey Hauser, Rocket Watts or Aaron Henry really shoot well over the past three games — or couple of months, if we’re being honest — and this could be the perfect game to get them going. Iowa doesn’t exactly have a stout defense which could lead to some open looks and Tom Izzo has stressed the need to shoot better if a turnaround is to happen.
Langford, Hauser and Watts are all too good of shooters to struggle for this long. They’re due for a solid game shooting the rock and Iowa’s defense may allow that.
Michigan State will make 40 percent and hang around in this one.
