Mel Tucker said he would he active in the transfer portal this offseason and he should target these five guys for Michigan State football.

The transfer portal has already been a helpful tool for soon-to-be second-year head coach Mel Tucker and Michigan State as the Spartans have picked up a handful of guys who should be able to help right away.

Guys like Harold Joiner (Auburn), Kenneth Walker III (Wake Forest), Jarrett Horst (Arkansas State), Drew Jordan (Duke) and Anthony Russo (Temple) have all transferred in and it seems like with the amount of attrition the Spartans have had this offseason that the staff isn’t done yet.

Which remaining transfer portal members should the Spartans target this offseason?

This is a name that probably doesn’t sound too familiar because this is strictly a wishful thinking addition. But he does have ties to Mel Tucker, believe it or not. Netori Johnson committed and enrolled to Georgia in 2017 when Tucker was the defensive coordinator and although he didn’t play when the Michigan State head coach was still there, he was on the scout team.

Tucker knows who Johnson is and depending on their relationship, he could try to sway the former top-100 defensive tackle recruit to join the green and white.

Johnson didn’t play much at Georgia in his three years, recording just four tackles, two for loss and a sack in 2019 before switching over from the defensive line to the offensive side of the ball in 2020. This versatility could make him an even more intriguing target for Tucker and Co., especially with the need for depth on both sides.
