Michigan State Basketball: 3 positives from blowout win over Rutgers
3. Joshua Langford slowly — but surely — returning to form
It is truly a joy to see Joshua Langford back on the court and playing at a high level again.
After nearly two full seasons off from playing basketball due to injuries, Langford is back and after a bit of a slow start, is playing much better.
In the win against Nebraska, Langford scored 15 points, a season high. His usage won’t be the same as it was back in 2018, but that’s to be expected after the tumultuous two years he’s had. He is 23 years old now and looks comfortable taking a backseat to Henry and the rest of the younger Spartans.
But every now and again, we see flashes of the old Josh Langford, like we did in the second half tonight. His first half was rough, to say the least, highlighted by missing a wide open three pointer and fouling on a basket on the other end in the same sequence.
But Langford bounced back in the second half, scoring all of his 11 points after halftime. He got to the rim, shot free throws, and hit shots from all three levels. He finally looked comfortable on the court again, which could be extremely important going forward.
If the Spartans can get vintage Langford, they could be dangerous late in the season.
