With Michigan State’s new 4-2-5 defense, AJ Kirk will fit in nicely as a safety who can play a nickel position with pure defensive back skills. He’s also versatile enough to play some linebacker and that ability to play multiple positions is going to help him in this defense. He’ll be looked at to be an early contributor, especially with so many guys leaving this offseason.

What also helps Kirk here is the fact that he’s not just an early signee, but he’s enrolling early and will be on campus in January to learn the defense and get adjusted to the new pace.

Guys who enroll early are usually more successful early on and I think you’ll see that with Kirk.

The younger brother of former Ohio State and NFL safety Mike Doss clearly has some good bloodlines and he’s going to be a guy to watch early on as he plays position of need for MSU and he’s talented enough to be one of those Freshmen All-Big Ten type of players.

Kirk is ranked the No. 587 player and 47th-best safety in the class, according to 247Sports. Some experts believed he would end up at Ohio State like his brother.
