Michigan State football was once a finalist for four-star running back Harold Joiner before he picked Auburn. Now he’s back on the market.

A day after the early signing period kicked off, Audric Estime remains unsigned by the Spartans following an offer from Notre Dame earlier this week. He was expected to be the top prospect for Michigan State in this class but he may be holding off until February to make his decision final, but the Irish are making a late push.

Although it may seem all doom-and-gloom when it comes to Estime and filling out the class with capable running backs (Davion Primm is one, but two would be nice), there’s a name that could be thrown around more in the coming weeks via the transfer portal: Harold Joiner.

Does that name sound familiar? It should. Joiner was very high on the Spartans just a few classes ago before he decided to stay close to home and commit to Auburn.

Joiner was also a high four-star prospect, ranked the No. 5 running back in the class of 2018. He was an Army All-American and one of the most highly sought-after backs in the class, trimming his list to six before ultimately picking the Tigers.

Now that he’s back on the market in the transfer portal, Joiner could be reconsidering calling East Lansing home for the next couple of years. He turned down the offer to come to Michigan State once, but with the program headed back in the right direction and in need of running back depth, the fit could be perfect for both sides.

Keep an eye on Joiner as he could be either a complementary piece to Estime with the incoming 2021 class or the replacement.
