Michigan State Basketball: 5 bold predictions for December 2020
5. Rocket Watts averages 18 points per game
Although he’s gotten off to an incredibly slow start offensively, Rocket Watts got an earful from Tom Izzo after a mistake against Notre Dame and was lights-out after that, finishing with 13 points. He made just one bucket against Eastern Michigan as it was clear he was rusty after a bruised knee injury kept him out for five practices leading up to the opener.
Notre Dame looked to keep him in check as well but he caught fire in the second half and finished second on the team in scoring with 13 points on 46 percent shooting. He also had six assists and two rebounds in 20 minutes and he’ll average closer to 25-30 minutes per game when he gets his legs back.
Watts is one of the best scorers on the team and has the potential to be one of the most prolific in the Big Ten, but his current 7.5 points per game average has to feel disappointing to him.
And that’s why he’ll turn it all around in December, leading the Spartans with 18 points per game which will get that overall average up to around 16.
We’re about to see why Watts was considered a potential breakout star for 2020-21.
