1. This can be an elite defensive team

After the Eastern Michigan game, I came away saying that Michigan State could be one of Tom Izzo’s best shooting squads. I still believe that even though the Spartans struggled from deep on Saturday but I’ve come away from this one thinking that this team can be elite on the defensive end.

There are some liabilities on that end of the floor — Foster Loyer comes to mind — but guys like Aaron Henry, Joshua Langford, Rocket Watts, Marcus Bingham Jr. and even Gabe Brown more than made up for that. These guys play some solid defense and even Foster had a steal and didn’t give up too much on the offensive end.

If Bingham continues to play as well as he did on the defensive end in the post with seven rebounds, four blocks and a steal, he could be a star for this team and a perfect replacement for Xavier Tillman.

Watts was solid on that end and Langford was also stingy on that end but the star of the show was obviously Aaron Henry who had eight rebounds, four blocks and a steal.

Things got sloppy late with fouls, but the Spartans were rock-solid for about 35 minutes.
