Michigan State football offered 2022 recruit Tayshawn Trent back in July. Do the Spartans have a chance to land the high-level in-state receiver?

Michigan State is in on 6-foot-4, 205-pound receiver Tayshawn Trent from Eastpointe (Mich.)

The in-state target is rated a four-star prospect by the 247Sports composite rankings and the seventh-best player in the state of Michigan.

With his large frame, Trent is your prototypical split-end. He plays physical and wins jump balls against defensive backs.

Tremendous body control is another reason why Trent is rated a four-star prospect, just take a look at his junior season film, he is one of the best wide receivers in the midwest.

Trent describes himself as, “A D.K. Metcalf or Julio Jones type of player.”

In addition to his stellar play, Trent wants to work on a couple of things before the start of his senior season.

“I wanna get way faster and build more confidence.”

When contemplating for a college decision, Trent has some things he is looking for.

“Football team-wise, (I want a) great program with great coaches that show love,” he said. “Academically, I want a school whose professors willing to help and look out (for me). So if I go on a visit, I’ll want to talk to the professors.”

Trent is also looking to major in sports management.

The Michigan State coaching staff is in contact frequently with Trent. Wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins and offensive graduate assistant Jack Tabb talk with him most often he tells me.

Michigan State is not the only big school after Trent, he holds offers from Michigan, Penn State, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Cincinnati, Pitt, West Virginia and more.

“A top seven list is on the way soon,” Trent said. “A commitment (time), I don’t know yet.”

Hawkins is going to continue to build on an already strong relationship with Trent. Look out for Michigan State in his recruitment. The Spartans would benefit greatly from adding a big-bodied receiver like Trent.
