Three-star lineman Ru’Quan Buckley has Michigan State football in his top five. Do the Spartans have a chance to land him ahead of signing day?

Godwin Heights (Mich.) High School is not a place you think of when you think powerhouse football programs in the state of Michigan.

Despite that, Godwin Heights has a star in the making in 6-foot-6, 280-pound offensive tackle Ru’Quan Buckley.

On Friday the talented lineman dropped his top five schools on twitter and the Spartans have made the cut along with Nebraska, Florida State, Cincinnati and Minnesota.

Buckley is rated a three-star prospect by the 247Sports composite and the No. 14 prospect in the state of Michigan.

Offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic has made Buckley a priority in the 2021 class for Michigan State. Given that, the 247Sports Midwest recruiting expert Allen Trieu has his crystal ball pick right now in for Nebraska, but that will not stop Michigan State’s relentless approach in recruiting.

Players like Rayshaun Benny, Audric Estime and Geno VanDemark all had presumed leaders in their recruitment when Mel Tucker got to East Lansing. Hard work and tenacity led to Michigan State getting a commitment from those guys, so you can expect Michigan State to keep fighting in the Buckley recruitment even if they are not the leader as of now.

The early signing period is less than a month away, so expect Buckley to make a commitment sooner rather than later. Adding a player like Buckley to an already talented offensive line class would be icing on the cake.

With the early signing day up ahead, make sure you keep an eye out for Michigan State on the recruiting trail, there is plenty of talented players coach Tucker would like to add to his class to finish out the year.
