While Tom Izzo was cryptic about the point guard position, he did say that Josh Langford is more than likely a lock to be in that starting lineup.

This comes as a bit of a surprise because he hasn’t seen live action since December of 2018. He hasn’t played a full season since 2017-18 and missed half of the 2018-19 season and all of 2019-20. Many expected him to pass up the opportunity to use a redshirt on 2019-20 and just move on from the program, but he made the decision to return for one more run.

Leaving on an injury that kept him out for a year and a half was just not how he wanted to go out, especially after he was in the midst of a breakout junior campaign before getting hurt.

Langford is in his third season as a captain so he’ll obviously be a leader on and off the court, but he’s also one of the purest scorers on the roster when he’s healthy. He has a smooth jumper and can surprise people with his athleticism when he’s 100 percent.

Before he went down with an injury as a junior, Langford was averaging 15 points and shooting 40 percent from deep. If he’s anything like that this season, Michigan State will be in luck.

Izzo says Langford is almost all the way back to full strength.
