1. The QB1 for 2021 may not be on the current roster

Everyone loved Rocky Lombardi after he led Michigan State to an upset win over Michigan in the second game of the season and he started the year with back-to-back 300-yard games. It looked like he had turned a corner, but since then, it’s looking more like he took advantage of bad defenses.

Lombardi struggled against Iowa and threw three interceptions while hobbling his way to the bench in the fourth quarter as Payton Thorne took over. He followed that up with a poor start against Indiana with two picks in the first quarter on seven attempts.

No longer was Rocky able to just bomb it deep to his speedy receivers and hope for the best as defenses figured out that was his strategy.

Thorne came in and completed 10-of-20 passes for 110 yards but he had a bad interceptions and struggled on a few short, easy passes. He was in his own head a little bit but he was still solid and with a full week of No. 1 reps, he could look more confident against Maryland.

Still, I’m not quite sure if the QB1 for 2021 is on the current roster. Could Mel Tucker go with the incoming freshman in Hamp Fay or maybe the transfer portal? I think so.
