Michigan State football kicked off its 2022 class on Sunday with the commitment of monster three-star lineman Kristian Phillips.

The 2022 class for Michigan State football is off to a big start. Figuratively and literally.

Six-foot-four, 315-pound offensive lineman Kristian Phillips is now a Spartan. Rivals currently has a rated as a three-star prospect.

Michigan State got out to a large early lead which lead to a commitment from Phillips.

“Michigan State has been somewhere I’ve been dreaming to go, so it was a blessing to get an offer,” Phillips said. “Coach (Chris) Kapilovic has been recruiting me and our relationship is very good that’s what led up to my decision.”

Michigan State has a tremendous presence in the state of Georgia. Recruiting in the Peach State was a staple in the Mark Dantonio era. Now with Mel Tucker, the pipeline continues with Phillips, and he knows it.

“It feels good for real. I’m ready to keep grinding and keep going forward,” Phillips said.

Even at 315 pounds, Phillips still moves very well for his size. Michigan State’s offensive line has struggled with run blocking, adding a guy like Phillips will help in that facet of the game. He says that the biggest thing he’s trying to work on before he gets to East Lansing is his flexibility.

On the gridiron, Phillips describes himself as: “Very quick, strong and dominant.”

Being the first commitment in the class, Phillips is known as the anchor. He likes being this guy and Phillips will try and help recruit to players to join him in East Lansing.

“I’m trying to get my running back to get recruited and it feels good. I will not let Michigan State fans down at all,” he said.

Michigan State is off to a fantastic start to the 2022 class. Tucker and his staff will plan to build on this in hopes of making Michigan State as dominant as possible on the recruiting trail.
