There were plenty of positives from Michigan State football’s win over Michigan in Week 9, but what were the three biggest bright spots?

A week ago, Michigan State lost to Rutgers and I found it incredibly difficult to come up with nice things to say about the Spartans. When compiling a list of bright spots, I was grasping for straws.

The opposite was the case this weekend.

Michigan State’s win over Michigan came with bright spots galore and any time a team can go on the road after an embarrassing, forgettable loss to a conference bottom-dweller and beat their ranked rival, you have to be impressed.

The Spartans impressed everyone this weekend. From the offense’s ability to move the ball against Don Brown’s defense to special teams making some great plays, Michigan State did just about everything well. Upperclassman leaders stepped up and even some freshmen got into the action, aiding the upset.

No one, their own fanbase included, thought that the Spartans stood much of a chance against the Wolverines on Saturday. Michigan entered the game fresh off a road win over No. 18 Minnesota and Michigan State lost to Rutgers. But anything can happen in a rivalry.

The tougher team won on Saturday and you have to give a ton of credit to this coaching staff for having the guys prepared and not letting them get too high or too low.

Now, onto some bright spots from the victory.
