2. The offensive line was atrocious

For whatever reason, I was optimistic about the offensive line going into the season. Well, I do know the reason and his name is Chris Kapilovic.

Michigan State had some talent returning on the line and the group was young enough to be molded into a competent group after a few straight disappointing seasons that seemed to waste the talent of Brian Lewerke (along with Dave Warner). But it was clear on Saturday that the Spartans and Kapilovic have a ton of work to do.

We didn’t see any Devontae Dobbs for undisclosed reasons and the Spartans didn’t really show much promise up front.

Run lanes were non-existent as guys like Connor Heyward and Elijah Collins were consistently hit the second they got their handoffs and Jordon Simmons had to create his own space.

Rocky Lombardi was also getting hit constantly and he had very little time to set his feet and throw because he was running for his life. And he fumbled a couple of times because the line failed to pick up the blitz and he was hit on his blindside.

This line was a major issue and a reason why the Spartans had zero run game.
