Prediction: MSU defense keeps this one close

We haven’t talked much about the Spartans’ defense, but I do believe that Michigan State will have a decent group and an improved defensive backfield with Harlon Barnett back.

With that improved defensive backfield which should start the most talented guys and not just the veterans, I see Justin Fields turning the ball over in a critical situation which will lead to a Michigan State score. No, Michigan State won’t pull off the upset here but the only reason the Spartans will even be in this game at all will be defense.

Ohio State will pull away in the fourth quarter to make the final look lopsided, but it won’t be indicative of how close this one really was.

Prediction: Theo Day out-duels Sean Clifford

Yes, it’s a Theo Day-based prediction once again. If he gets the nod as the starter like I believe he will, I think fans will be pleasantly surprised with the redshirt sophomore.

While I don’t see Michigan State pulling off an upset in Happy Valley here, I’m going to say Day will out-duel the veteran Sean Clifford who will have about two years of starting experience under his belt at this point. He’s going to keep Michigan State in the game, but the Nittany Lions’ run game will steal the show and put the Spartans away.

Yes, I’m aware that these predictions are wild and there’s a good chance that zero might come true, but hey, that’s the point of being bold. Give us your best bold prediction for 2020.
